Teaching Online

Online courses have become very popular in higher education with many universities and colleges establishing training programs to prepare their faculty to teach online. Teaching online is very different to teaching face to face. Apart from practical considerations such as when and how the teaching will be offered most teachers don’t fully appreciate and understand the complexities of online teaching until they have taught their first online course.

Overview In this tutorial we explore the concept of teaching online and discuss the pros and cons of doing so. We look at some examples of good practice and we look at online teaching strategies you can employ to help you design and facilitate effective online learning experiences for your students.
